Late 19th Century Family Bible

This 130 year old Family Bible required extensive restoration (see description in entry under "Book Binding and Restoration" section). It is 12 in. X 10 in. X 5 in. and weighs 15 pounds! Two silver clasps. Missing some of the gilt decoration on both covers (see photos). New leather spine covering with blind stamped decoration and five raised ribs. There are sections on the cities of the Old Testament, the Apocrypha, the Parables of Jesus (with numerous color illustrations), Jesus' life, the lives of the apostles and others. There are numerous in-text engravings in both the Old and New Testaments. There is also a section with a family history of the original owners from Rhode Island.

Late 19TH Century Family BIBLE

Professionally restored Family Bible containing Old and New Testaments. Most of original spine leather replaced onto new leather spine (see description in last section of "Book Binding and Restoration" section). New endpapers consistent with the original. All gilt illustrations on front and rear covers are bright. Bright gilt text block on three sides. All leather surfaces conditioned with conservator's conditioner and then sealed with leather sealer. Many full page color illustrations protected with achival tissue, and many full page and in-text black and white engravings. This is a large Bible, 4 inches thick and weighing about 12 pounds.
