1900/ Putnam's Limited Iroquois Edition. 360/1000. 423 pages with three full page, tissue protected illustrations. Cooper's most popular book and made into a movie twice, the latest in 1992 starring Daniel Day-Lewis. Very good. Title on spine label is not legible. Chronologically the second book of Cooper's "Leather Stocking Tales" series taking place in 1757 during the French and Indian Wars. |

1902. First Edition, seventh printing (there were ten printings that year). Dedicated to President Theodore Roosevelt. Wister's famous Western tale about a stranger from Virginia and his adventures in the Old West. The seminal Western novel (it predated Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage by 12 years) and the basis for the TV series by the same name starring James Drury. Very Good minus. 504 pages with 6 pages of ads in the back. Slight darkening of spine cloth. Cloth pieced-in at head of spine where 1/8 inch of cloth was lost. Some fraying of cloth at the tail of spine and creasing of spine cloth (see photo). Eight full page plates. First editions are rare in this condition at this price. |
