Reading sporting magazines from the early and mid twentieth century is truly a journey back in time. The advertisements are as enlightening and entertaining as the articles. Many of the issues have articles dealing with conservation and game preservation. This was a particularly hot topic in the early twentieth century and was brought to the forefront of sportsmen's discussions by Theodore Roosevelt, George Grinnell, John Burroughs, Whitney, Pinchot, and the Boone and Crockett Club. Very good. All pages securely bound. Covers in very good condition. Even in 1916 folks were looking for ways to stop smoking. Add for Grand American Handicap to be held in St. Louis, and St. Louisan Mrs. Nettie Burrows, a pioneer of women in trap shooting. |
